Glare control is one of the main challenges in public lighting. ATP Iluminación offers solutions that improve lighting uniformity without compromising luminaire performance
ARRE —16/10/2026— One of the most noticeable problems in public lighting is glare. It is particularly prevalent in low-height installations, where the proximity of the light source to pedestrians causes visual discomfort.
The Problem: Glare
The high intensity of LEDs makes it possible to achieve adequate levels of energy efficiency. However, it can also create the perception of harsh, overly intense lighting when glare is not properly controlled. This effect compromises pedestrians' visual comfort and can negatively impact the surrounding environment.
The challenge lies in achieving the required lighting levels while ensuring a comfortable and balanced visual experience. That is why ATP Lighting's lighting installations combine energy efficiency and lighting performance.
The Solution: ATP Iluminación's Comfort Diffuser®
To minimise glare, ATP Lighting offers its Comfort Diffuser®. Manufactured from technical polymers, this solution is designed to eliminate glare without compromising luminaire performance.
Its design softens the direct perception of individual LED light sources and provides uniform light distribution. As a result, the light becomes more pleasant to the human eye, improving visual comfort without sacrificing the performance benefits of ATP's LED technology.
In addition to reducing glare, the Comfort Diffuser® promotes greater lighting uniformity and softens shadows cast by the surrounding environment. The result is balanced illumination that combines energy efficiency with high-quality lighting.
Glare does not have to be an inevitable consequence of LED lighting. Thanks to the effective solutions developed by ATP, it is possible to maintain optimal lighting performance while providing uniform illumination.
Glare Control in Pedestrian Areas
A recent example of ATP Lighting addressing glare through its Comfort Diffuser® is the successful project in Zaratán (Valladolid).
In this project, reducing glare was particularly important due to the proximity of pedestrians to the light sources. ATP Lighting therefore made visual well-being a key consideration in the design of the installation.
The installed luminaires feature the Comfort Diffuser® to provide pleasant, efficient lighting while meeting the required illumination levels. The project demonstrates how lighting quality can be integrated into the design of a lighting installation from the outset, without having to choose between comfort and performance.
Marbella Coastal Path: Controlling Glare in Low-Height Installations
The Marbella Coastal Path is another representative success story. In this project, ATP Lighting brought its lighting solutions to the Marbella coastline, installing Metrópoli LBLC luminaires mounted on Coliseo columns.
As a low-height installation, glare control was one of the main considerations. To address this challenge, the luminaires were equipped with the Comfort Diffuser®, not only to eliminate glare but also to ensure high lighting quality.
Lighting studies made it possible to combine visual comfort with high levels of uniformity, ensuring that the illumination provides a pleasant experience for users along the path.
Commitment to High-Quality Lighting
These projects highlight the importance of glare control in lighting design. By adapting its solutions to the specific needs of each environment, ATP Lighting continues to demonstrate its commitment to public lighting that combines energy efficiency and lighting performance.
