DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIÁN —16/01/26— The city of San Sebastián, located on the coast of the Bay of Vizcaya and surrounded by an extraordinarily beautiful natural setting, has established itself as one of the most iconic urban destinations in northern Spain. Renowned for the perfect harmony between its landscape, architecture, and vibrant cultural life, the capital of Gipuzcoa naturally combines maritime tradition, urban elegance, and a deep respect for its historical heritage.

This environment demands particularly careful urban interventions in terms of lighting, materials, and public space design, aiming to preserve the visual harmony of the coastline while minimizing impacts on the natural surroundings. Furthermore, San Sebastián maintains a strong commitment to reducing light pollution, integrating technologies that prioritize energy efficiency, the quality of the night sky, and the protection of the coastal ecosystem.

High-Performance LED Technology for Demanding Environments

In the Paseo de Salamanca area, a complex urban environment combines roadway, parking, bike lanes, and wide sidewalks along the river. For this intervention, ATP Ligthing implemented the Metrópoli LP luminaire, which guarantees the required lighting levels, ensures exceptional uniformity, effectively controls glare, and minimizes light emission toward the upper hemisphere.

Uniformity and Visual Safety in Urban Spaces

San Sebastián’s interventions span pedestrian promenades, public spaces, and residential areas, always aiming to improve lighting levels and ensure optimal uniformity. Around the Kursaal, the Cónica TLA luminaire provides adequate lighting for walking and leisure areas while harmoniously integrating with the surroundings’ aesthetic.

In Plaza Txofre, in the heart of the Gros district and covering two full city blocks, the luminaire significantly enhances lighting levels and uniformity in a space combining landscaped areas, trees, a playground, and a large open area crossed by a road, while updating the visual appeal with a more modern design.

In the Loiola neighborhood, a residential area with streets of varying layouts and abundant low-height trees, the Cónica TLAC adapts to different existing poles. Thanks to its Difusor Confort®, it provides excellent glare control, delivering optimal lighting levels and uniformity for safe and comfortable pedestrian use.

ATP System: Durability and Comfort by the Sea

At the installation near the Aquarium and facing La Zurriola Beach, in a location with privileged coastal views, a full ATP system was employed, ensuring both the luminaire and the pole provide exceptional resistance to corrosion and wear typical of marine environments. As this is an exclusively pedestrian area, it is essential not only to guarantee uniform illumination but also to control glare—tasks that the Europa LA luminaire, equipped with its Difusor Confort®, accomplishes perfectly.
