The project, carried out under the DUS 5000 Programme, modernises the municipality’s outdoor lighting and achieves a 64.99% reduction in annual energy consumption
ESPINOSA DE LOS MONTEROS — 02/10/2026 — Espinosa de los Monteros Town Council (Burgos) has completed a comprehensive upgrade of the municipality’s outdoor public lighting installations. The project involved the replacement and installation of 720 new LED luminaires from ATP Iluminación, marking a significant step towards a more efficient, modern and sustainable lighting model.
Espinosa de los Monteros: history and heritage in Las Merindades
Located in the north of Burgos, close to the border with Cantabria, Espinosa de los Monteros boasts a rich heritage that reflects its long history. Situated in the Las Merindades region, the town is home to towers, palaces and churches that shape its urban landscape and form a valuable architectural ensemble closely linked to the history and identity of the municipality.
Lighting in harmony with the character of the municipality
In a setting with these characteristics, upgrading outdoor lighting involves much more than a technological improvement. The lighting must meet efficiency and functionality requirements while integrating seamlessly into public spaces defined by traditional architecture and the historic character of the town.
The project forms part of the DUS 5000 Programme, designed to promote innovative local clean-energy projects in municipalities facing demographic challenges. The work carried out in Espinosa de los Monteros is aimed at creating more efficient and intelligent public lighting while reducing the environmental impact associated with the existing installations.
Siglo XLA: classic aesthetics and LED technology
Among the solutions installed is the Siglo XLA, a luminaire that combines classically inspired aesthetics with high-performance LED technology. Its design is particularly well suited to this type of setting, where maintaining a harmonious relationship with the surrounding architecture is essential.
This luminaire brings technology and aesthetics together in a balanced solution. This is particularly significant in a town where architectural heritage is one of the defining elements of its identity.
Versatile solutions for urban spaces
To meet the specific requirements of streets and roadways, the project incorporates the Enur L, a luminaire specifically developed for road-lighting applications. Its LED technology and design provide an efficient and robust solution adapted to the demands of everyday urban spaces.
The project is completed with the Cónica TLA, which brings a contemporary design solution to various public spaces throughout the municipality. The combination of different models makes it possible to adapt the lighting to the characteristics of each area while maintaining a coherent approach across the entire renovation project.
64.99% reduction in energy consumption
The introduction of LED technology and the modernisation of the installation have achieved a 64.99% reduction in annual energy consumption. This figure reflects the significant improvement in efficiency delivered by a project that takes a comprehensive approach to upgrading the municipality’s outdoor lighting.
The modernisation has also extended to the control systems. Thirteen control panels have been upgraded and an advanced remote-management system has been implemented, enabling lighting operation to be adjusted according to different night-time schedules and thereby optimising energy use.
Lighting designed for the future
The project demonstrates how upgrading public lighting can help modernise a municipality while respecting the distinctive characteristics of its surroundings. The combination of different ATP Iluminación solutions meets the needs of the streets and public spaces of Espinosa de los Monteros, bringing together energy efficiency, durability, lighting quality and aesthetic integration in an installation designed to stand the test of time.
