Complete sets of Alfa 2A luminaires and Coliseo columns: design, durability, and sustainability for a high-value urban coastal environment
SAGUNTO —21/11/2025— The new seafront promenade at the Port of Sagunto, inaugurated on July 19, 2024, has become one of the most iconic urban spaces along the Valencian coast.
Stretching approximately 400 meters and fully funded by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), the project has transformed the waterfront into a cultural, recreational, and social meeting space that pays tribute to the city’s industrial and port heritage.
The intervention combines heritage, contemporary design, and sustainability, integrating sports areas, leisure zones, urban furniture, and carefully designed lighting that enhances the architecture without disrupting the harmony of the coastal landscape.
A high-value urban environment and technical challenge
Sagunto’s seafront promenade is located in one of the areas most exposed to saline corrosion along the Mediterranean coast. The constant presence of chloride ions, sea winds, and ambient humidity accelerate the degradation of metallic materials, shortening their lifespan and multiplying maintenance costs.
Traditionally, outdoor lighting in coastal environments suffers rapid structural and luminous deterioration, requiring frequent repainting, replacements, and repairs. Against this backdrop, ATP Iluminación has provided a definitive solution based on engineering polymer materials completely immune to corrosion, eliminating maintenance entirely and ensuring exceptional durability.
Contemporary design with advanced technology
For the new promenade, complete ATP lighting sets were installed, comprising Alfa 2A luminaires with Difusor Confort® and Coliseo columns made of technical polymer with a steel core (Synergic Tube Class II+ for electrical safety).
The Alfa 2A model stands out for its avant-garde design: a slender cylinder with a minimalist Vessel Tech aesthetic, an LED module on top, and Difusor Confort® that distributes light evenly without glare. Its sleek profile allows the luminaires to blend discreetly into the urban landscape by day, while at night their warm, controlled light highlights pedestrian paths, the bike lane, and the sculptural structure of the central pergola.
To ensure a comfortable and environmentally respectful visual experience, a warm 3000 K color temperature was selected, combining a moderate percentage of blue in its spectral radiance with a high color rendering index (CRI). This choice reduces light dispersion into the sky and contributes to controlling light pollution, an essential aspect in open coastal areas.
The visual coherence and lighting uniformity achieved allow the illumination to act as an architectural cohesion element, reinforcing the identity of the space while providing safety and comfort for users.
Total durability against marine corrosion
The use of ATP’s exclusive polymer materials in luminaires and columns guarantees absolute immunity to corrosion, salt environments, and UV radiation, even under extreme conditions. These sets are IP66+ sealed, IK10+ impact resistant, and include structural protection against surges, ensuring reliable operation for decades without maintenance.
Additionally, ATP Coliseo columns, made entirely of technical polymer, offer Class II+ electrical safety, providing an extra level of protection in public coastal environments with high humidity. The result is a sustainable, efficient system with a low life-cycle cost, backed by ATP Iluminación’s comprehensive 10-year warranty, the longest in the industry.
Lighting serving the landscape and the community
The new promenade not only enhances safety and mobility but also adds an aesthetic and emotional dimension to the environment. The carefully designed lighting integrates the promenade’s different levels, highlights the geometry of the monumental pergolas, and reflects the historical narrative of the port and its steelmaking legacy through a balanced and elegant luminous atmosphere.
During its inauguration, local authorities and APV representatives emphasized the importance of the new space as a symbol of connection between heritage, citizens, and the sea, highlighting ATP solutions as an example of innovation and reliability in coastal environments.
A sustainable and definitive solution for coastal lighting
The Sagunto project represents a paradigmatic success in the application of anti-corrosion LED technology in maritime zones. With the Alfa 2A + Coliseo sets, the municipality now has a long-lasting, contemporary, and maintenance-free lighting system capable of withstanding the most aggressive marine conditions.
ATP Iluminación thus consolidates its position as a benchmark in technical solutions for outdoor lighting in ports, seafront promenades, and highly saline environments, where durability and sustainability are essential to ensure safety, efficiency, and the beauty of public spaces.
